Avaya 9670G IP Handset

Simon's Review of the Avaya 9670G IP Handset

What the manufacturer says...

The new Avaya one-X 9670G Deskphone is designed for the "Essential" user: someone who is constantly on the phone, handling multiple calls and is often mobile. The latest addition to the Avaya one-X line - designed to deliver powerful and consistent communications across a variety of end user devices - the Avaya 9670G is rich in features yet easy and intuitive to use.

Appealing to your senses of touch, sight and sound. The Avaya 9670G touch screen is a feast for the eyes. Big and easy to see, this icon-based home screen is the command center of the phone, putting the user one touch away from dialing a contact, launching an application or accessing important information - there's even a virtual QWERTY keyboard for easy input and editing. The home screen's bright, bold icons eliminate the need for extraneous buttons, providing a user interface that's informative and visually pleasing.

 Simon's Verdict

Avaya 9670G IP HandsetMy first thoughts when opening the box was "WOW"!

This handset comes with a huge VGA touch screen and host of different features including a QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth and real-time information. You can also have up to 9 web applications and favourite contacts on the home screen, I've got the weather set up on my homepage as shown above.

I really like the touch screen QWERTY keyboard, it makes life a whole lot easier when adding contacts and as with all the 9600 series handsets the speech recognition feature means if I want to call our Avaya Account Manager I just need to say, ‘Rhys - Avaya'.

Avaya has created this phone with serverless applications in mind, the phone comes with basic applications such as a calculator and the weather app but in the pipeline are apps such as Modular Messaging clients and CMS reporting apps.

Anyone with Avaya's Communications Manager 3.1 or higher can use this phone.

I say top marks for Avaya for releasing a phone that offers huge potential and the call quality is superb providing you have QoS on your network. I will look forward to reviewing new models from Avaya if the 9670G is anything to go by. The only thing I would say is the price for this is a little steep however G3 can offer discounts on all models of handsets.
