Carbon Reduction Commitment

DEFRA has devised an initiative enforcing companies with large energy bills to commit to reducing their carbon emissions.

Companies may want to know what their carbon emissions are in an effort to make their company a greener one; marketing their green credentials to stand out from the competition, gaining customers with similar green interests, or they may need to know according to the new directive from DEFRA, the Carbon Reduction Commitment.

Companies spending £500k a year or more on their energy bills will have adhere to the programme. Energy use will be monitored and then capped.

This programme will be controlled by an individual within the business but the responsibility lies on all employees and will require changes in habit, for instance, it's easy at home to turn the lights off when you exit a room, but how many people switch off PCs and monitors when they go home?

G3 can help with the devices that aren't so easy to switch off or reduce power consumption. G3 work with Extreme Networks and Avaya who have together developed networks that use less power (when compared to Cisco or Foundry). Extreme Networks' switches powerdown devices when they're not in use - i.e. phones and other IP devices can be powered down overnight and at weekends, this leads to significant energy reduction.
